Went out for dinner to Mami House Friday night and had a nice server here from Columbia on a summer work Visa. In the last week, I have seen young people from the Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, Turkey and Moldova working in the tourism industry.
Our meal was good, not great. Butterflied panko shrimp were crunchy. Savory chicken was a bit overcooked. I don't think I will ever get used to pork belly.
As we walked outside, we heard live music, a Doobie Brothers cover, and walked over to Seva to listen. A 4-piece band called Sequins was playing. We wanted to get a drink but when we asked for a cocktail menu they showed us a QR code which brought us to a menu but $16 for a cocktail? No thanks. And the whole QR code thing annoys me.
We walked on to check out Nerds Gone Wild on Old Falls Street, the fun 80s cover band. Sure enough, they were rocking out. If we were traveling and stumbled upon that scene, it would be an awesome memory. We wondered about the makeup of sizable crowd, how many were tourists, how many were residents and how many were Nerds Nerds who track the band down weekly. It happened to us memorably in Quebec City many years ago and again in Boston where I think the act was a free Don McClain show.
We decided to go home for a cocktail but hey, on the bright side, Bekah Carey promises Judas Tree will be open again soon.
More importantly the parents of Gaskill students have not been directly engaged to discuss this matter and it's been almost a month now.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 50 and low of 32 degrees. Overcast for the morning, patchy rain nearby for the afternoon, clear in the evening, overcast overnight.
Thanks for covering this event. Maybe next time I will send you a drone picture of all 200 of us, and you can then post that.
Does anyone know the proper process in Niagara Falls, NY for getting bulk trash or debris removed from a private yard? I’m trying to figure out who handles it and what steps residents are supposed to follow.
I would say organize a group of people to address the property you are concerned about and bring it to the curb on May 9, the annual Niagara Beautification Commission cleanup. Casella will pick it up.
