It was a cold Saturday still trapped in the stalled season of unlocking but that didn’t stop 200 or so Patriots from gathering at Hyde Park Boulevard and Pine Avenue for a “No Kings” protest.
They lined both sides of the street holding signs and chanting. Most cars honked in appreciation though the occasional driver flipped the bird.
Some people stayed away because they don’t participate in partisan politics or because it was too cold for them. Supporting free speech and our Constitution was too much to ask. Somehow it is partisan to suggest the rule of law, Civil Rights and adherence to the Constitution matter.
The Express visited the protest about the trusty mobile news unit. I still don’t have a Buckeye New Hawk award like my idol Les Nessman but there is time. One day, I may prove, with God as my witness, turkeys can fly.
The signs, and chants, were predictable. “Hey hey, ho ho, Donald Trump has got to go” and the more base “Fuck Donald Trump.”
Other signs made optimistic suggestions “Trump 20-28 years in prison,” and “I can’t afford a professional made sign. Thanks Trump. I can’t afford anything.”
145 Assembly District candidate Nathan McMurray came by, still toting petitions and speaking to anyone who will listen about how Niagara, Ontario is thriving because the province invests billions. Niagara Falls, New York is dying because the state sees it as a cash cow and takes billions.
There was no presence of law enforcement but one attendee told me how the First Amendment was his favorite. I opened my coat to show him I concealed carry at all times, revealing two pencils and paper in my shirt pocket. Two pencils in case the first runs out of lead.
