Short Take Sports:
Celebrating Peyton Krebs
He’s still only 25. He came here as part of the Eichel trade and seemed destined to be traded but somehow, along the way, he never stopped working. Now he’s a topliner and his defensive ability, skating and tenacity remind me of Ryan O’Reilly. Admit it. You didn’t see it coming, either. Oh, no game story today but hey, they won last night and Krebs scored the winner. https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/years-after-trade-sabres-peyton-krebs-becomes-first-liner-and-driver-buffalo-expected-to-change-lineup/
Metsa returns
Yesterday, Mike Harrington wrote in the Buffalo News that Zach Metsa needed to return immediately. Today, he is back. We will see if it leaks out but this feels like the general manager made a roster move without asking the coach like when Adams sent down Ostlund earlier in the season. They are better with Metsa in the lineup. Leave him there for the next 800 games. https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sabres-recall-rookie-zach-metsa-from-rochester-amerks/
Zach Benson brings it
He is not yet 20. He has 200 games in. Only two Sabres have ever done that. Turgeon and Housley. Also, in case you missed it, Tage Thompson now has 37 goals. Scoring 35 or more in a Sabres uniform has only ever been done by Perreault, Martin and Gare. You know it is elite company when devoted fans know the players by one name. Tage will be a legend. https://www.wkbw.com/sports/everyone-knows-what-were-playing-for-1-on-1-with-buffalo-sabres-forward-zach-benson
Leafs score moral victory
Oh sure, they are out of the playoffs, fired their GM and Auston Matthews is out for the year but at least Max Domi beat up Radko Gudas. https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/why-maple-leafs-max-domi-144034556.ht…?
