Last Sunday, as we killed time pregame, I decided it would be a good late-Fall day for a visit to Goat Island.
We took what will forever be known as the Hooten Haller root (thanks @kellieeverett), parking at Parking Lot 3 (it’s free and you get a woods walk. Double win.)
We walked the woods to Luna Island (closed for the winter) and then walked the top over to the Horseshoe Falls before heading back south along the paved path to Three Sisters Islands.
Gord and Beth had a grand time. As we got back from Three Sisters near grassy area between the woods and the parking lot, Gord slipped his leash.
He bounded joyfully in massive, sprinting circles, looking for a squirrel or fun or anything.
Suddenly I saw two rangers approaching from 50 yards away. I called him back and refastened his leash.
“Did you let him off his leash or did he slip it?” Ranger 1 asked.
“Oh he slipped it for sure,” I said.
“There are a lot of cars around and people drive like idiots,” he said. "I'd hate to see a tragedy."
“Thanks for the heads up,” I replied.
Gord and Beth just looked on and grinned.
I don’t want to jinx it but I do seem to have a knack for talking my way out of tickets. Whether he really slipped his leash I will leave it for you to decide.
The chickadees and titmice are back along the parking lot near Three Sisters Island and ready to eat birdseed from your hand.
More importantly the parents of Gaskill students have not been directly engaged to discuss this matter and it's been almost a month now.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 53 and low of 32 degrees. Don't forget your umbrella! Overcast in the morning, patchy rain nearby in the afternoon, clear during the evening, overcast overnight.
Thanks for covering this event. Maybe next time I will send you a drone picture of all 200 of us, and you can then post that.
Does anyone know the proper process in Niagara Falls, NY for getting bulk trash or debris removed from a private yard? I’m trying to figure out who handles it and what steps residents are supposed to follow.
I would say organize a group of people to address the property you are concerned about and bring it to the curb on May 9, the annual Niagara Beautification Commission cleanup. Casella will pick it up.
