ASSAULT: A Niagara Falls Boulevard resident attacked a couple in their Cayuga Drive garden shed at about 1:53 p.m. Wednesday, striking a woman in the knee with a baseball bat. Police located the suspect nearby and charged him with assault, menacing and criminal trespassing. No motive was listed on the report.
SHOPLIFTING: A Forest Avenue man was charged with shoplifting at about 6 p.m. Wednesday when he allegedly attempted to take goods valued at more than $400 from Walmart without scanning them at the self-checkout.
ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL: No, not a 1980s WNY bar band, a driver in the Niagara Street Dairy Queen drivethrough at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. Police awakened the driver and asked him to step out of the vehicle. His speech was slurred. His eyes were glossy. The suspect, listed as homeless, failed field sobriety tests but blew a .000 on the Breathalyzer. He was taken into custody on a charge of DWI drugs.
DON’T RUN: An officer on patrol on Buffalo Avenue at about 4:55 p.m. Tuesday observed a vehicle traveling 54 mph in a 30 mph zone, made a U-turn and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, a resident of 22nd Street, fled, running a stop sign at 68th and Buffalo Avenue before finally coming to a stop. He told police he ran because “I thought I didn’t have a license.” He was ticketed for reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign and speeding.
