State offers stairs update

As we put the finishing touches on the new Cataract Stairs & Overlook, we’re excited to welcome visitors beginning at noon, September 8–11.Some more information:7–9 a.m. — Visitors can walk down the Cataract Stairs from Prospect Point into the lower gorge.After 9 a.m., while Maid of the Mist is operating — The stairs will be up-only. Visitors can access the lower gorge using the Observation Tower elevators or experience the Falls from below with Maid of the Mist, then return to Prospect Point via the Cataract Stairs.After Maid of the Mist closes for the season — The stairs will be available for both up and down access, weather permitting, until winter conditions require a seasonal closure.The Cataract Stairs and Overlook are free and open to the public. Access to the lower gorge via the Observation Tower elevators requires an Observation Deck ticket ($1.25) while operating.Please note that access and hours are weather dependent and can change.
