Trap House selling
Fun to see Demetreus Nix running his Trap smoke store at 2510 Pine Ave. with a 5 four 20 deal.
I don’t know what the 5 is. I can’t touch the stuff because I’m not so smart I can touch weed without turning stupid.
“Dope” brings me to the first point of language. In the African American community, 2023, it means heroin. In Clarence or Alden, 1982 to 2020 it meant pot.
That said, to each their own. One element of his shop fascinates me – the use of the word “Trap.”
Some people find it offensive because “trap house” in urban language, hip hop and rap has often meant drug house.
It no longer does because language evolves. “Trap” now means anywhere someone grind to do their business. There are at least four legitimate businesses now operating in Little Italy with “Trap” as part of the name.
Words change and take new meanings.

The original use of "trap" is a reference to the idea that the most lucrative lines of work for these communities--usually involving *** or drugs--were less likely to provide long-term skills, opportunities, and personal safety, thus being a trap. I agree it is interesting how it has evolved. Also, it's been long held in my generation that "dope means heroin if you smoke weed, and it means weed if you don't" so it's kind of like a pejorative for "depressant you dont partake in." Happy 4/20.
