Niagara Falls employee and union president Tim Huether is out of work on disability.
He posted this status to Facebook earlier this week. Huether is an outspoken critic of the Restaino administration, questioning not only spending but priorities.
For example, the city has a residency requirement for employees but it is only sometimes enforced, for example leadership in code enforcement and the deputy corporation counsel. Kevin Forma doesn’t count because he has already put in his notice.
Here’s what Huether posted:
“So today I go to leave my house at 6:30 am to take my buddy to work and there is a strange vehicle that stopped in front of my house......but then it moved in front of my neighbor's house (which happens to be my daughters' and grandkids house).
“I leave and it followed me for a few blocks but then turned off on a side street. I come back home about 30 minutes later and it is sitting in front of my kids' house again. One person sitting inside it that never got out. So I cleaned my daughters' cars off so they could take my granddaughters to school and go inside my house.
“I watch my kids get in and leave while this KIA minivan just sits there. I watched my daughter get back home and go inside her house but the KIA minivan just sits there occupied by one person. That was all between 6:30 am and 9 am. My other daughter comes over around noon so we can go to lunch and the KIA minivan is still sitting there until I get in my car to leave. “The driver proceeds to follow me. I did what I was taught when you think someone is following you.....random turns and then stop. I stopped at the top of my street and so did he for a second. He went around me and proceeded to the end of my street......where he just sat at the stop sign.
“So I started following him! I turned and went to the city police station. He had already gone straight so I turned onto main street and walked into the police station. I went to the police info window and showed the officer a picture of the license plate that I had. They ran the plate and guess who was following me......a private investigator from buffalo!
“Why would a private investigator be following the union president? Is it because I'm on workers comp? Probably.......but the bigger question is why is a private detective being paid to follow me while I'm on workers comp and there are 4 (soon to be 3) city administration employees that are violating the residency requirement of the city charter?
“Why would the city not have an investigator investigate those allegations of employees violating the city charter? Could this be retaliation on the union president? Maybe. Could this be retaliation on a whistleblower? Again.....maybe.
“Am I the only resident that thinks this may be a waste of taxpayer money? Maybe. People need to pay attention to your surroundings. This could have been much worse had I not gone to the police when I noticed someone tailing me and been informed of who it is.”
