Short Take Politics
The 1890s all over again
Non-partisan political historian Heather Cox Richardson is on the money again today pointing out how history repeats itself. This time it is a parallel between citizen activists rising up against the government then and now. Ultimately, that era ended in 1901 when President William McKinley got shot in Buffalo. McKinley started meaningless trade wars with random tariffs and enacted economic policy that hurt the middle class and bolstered the fortunes of the very rich.
McKinley was replaced by President Teddy Roosevelt who was sworn in in Buffalo.
