November 20 board meeting summary
The Niagara Falls City School District Board of Education met on Thursday, November 20, 2025. At this meeting, the Board approved 24 short term contracts. Twelve of these contracts supported Saturday Academy activities for December 6 at Cataract Elementary School and on December 13 at Bloneva Bond Primary School.
Approved activities include: Tee shirt design, drum circles, literacy and animals with the SPCA, movement, fitness and dancing, creating your own books, henna creations, Go Bike safety, and exploring matter and energy with liquid nitrogen and dry ice.
The Board of Education accepted grants totaling $1,591,273.50. Ms. Portland Jackson was appointed as a new community member of the District Audit Committee. A resolution to purchase a new generator for LaSalle Prep School was also approved.
The Superintendent of Schools congratulated ad hoc student board member, Harjyot Kaur, on achieving a 97% 10-week grade point average. He also congratulated long time School Business Official Rebecca Holody on her retirement from the Niagara Falls City School District.
Best wishes to Niagara Falls High School divers, Selena Govern and Torianne Franke, as they compete in the New York State Swimming and Diving State Championships.
Twenty one of the one hundred Niagara County elementary choral students performing on February 7, 2026, represent the Niagara Falls School District. Thank you to Cataract teachers Sunnie Ventry and Abigail Edwards and Principal Angela Manella for their leadership in raising $20,500 for Roswell Park in the name of Dominic Strangio.
The Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed distribution to students has resulted in the delivery of 50 beds to date. An additional 50 beds are expected on December 7, 2025. On December 9th, Niagara Falls High School, Niagara Wheatfield High School, and North Tonawanda High School will conduct a community service project in North Tonawanda. He thanked Anne Le Gasse and Nicole Mombrea, who founded Grandma’s Little Gifts, for providing 280 holiday baskets for the McKinney-Vento students. Condolences were sent to the Jamestown community on the loss of their Pre-K 4 student this week to an accident. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
