An update from Saturday’s Council primary wrap up.
There is still one issue outstanding. Republicans are challenging the petitions of Restaino endorsed Democratic newcomer Bridgette Myles. At issue are signatures, whether the person who signed was legitimately the same person who is registered to vote and whether Myles actually witnessed all the signatures.
If petitions submitted by the party from committeepersons and enrolled Democratic supporters of John Kinney and Noah Munoz had enough signatures she could be OK even if every signature she collected is invalidated.
Here’s the rub: There are allegations Myles had other people gathering signatures and then signed the affidavit as if she witnessed. That would constitute petition fraud, a felony.
Possible outcomes are: 1) The Republicans have been dazed and confused for so long it’s not true, she stays on the ballot (apologies to Led Zeppelin.) 2) She did it and rather than face criminal charges could be offered a chance to withdraw. (As a wise man once said “don’t piss on a rattlesnake.”)
Unscientific polling says incumbents David Zajac and Donta Myles return to office. After that, it's a crapshoot but it likely means items brought forth by the mayor like Centennial Park need to be passed before January because no matter who is elected, their won't be a rubber stamp available.
