DWI: Officers conducted a low-speed chase on Pine Avenue at about 2:30 Friday morning after observing a slow-moving vehicle. Police attempted to box-in the vehicle as it fled but it crashed through a patrol car and kept going. Multiple attempts to stop the vehicle failed. A 37-year-old Niagara Falls woman was arrested and charged with impeding traffic by driving to slowly, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, moving from a lane unsafely, driving the wrong way on a one-way, driving in the center lane, improper passing on the right, operating while impaired by drugs, reckless driving, redlight violation, criminal mischief and fleeing from an officer in a motor vehicle.
WALMART FUN: Police were called to Walmart at about 6:40 p.m. Friday to assist Niagara County Sheriffs with a shoplifting arrest. A Grand Island man, 44, became irate when told he was being detained for allegedly shoplifting. The suspect attempted to leave and was forcibly cuffed. He complained of head pain. No ambulance was available so police transported him to Niagara Falls Memorial.
SUSPECT WITH KNIFE: Officers responded to the area of Duff’s for a report of a suspect with a knife at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday. Police located a suspect matching the description walking on Niagara Falls Boulevard and attempted to detain him. The suspect, a 42-year-old Niagara Falls man allowed a partial search and was relieved of a folding knife. The suspect then ran from the scene and fell to the ground in the parking lot of Memory Lane Hotel. He still refused to comply. A Sheriff deputy and a Town of Niagara officer arrived on the scene and assisted with detaining the struggling suspect who was eventually tased. Police wanted to do a show-up at the plaza but the complainant was a plow driver with lots to clean. The suspect was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED: A motorist started his Toyota Tundra near 628 10th Street to allow it to warm up at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when someone drove off with it. The vehicle owner had a tracking feature and traced the car to the area of Monteagle Ridge apartments. Officers tracked the suspect to where he was hiding behind a garage. The 28-year old Hyde Park Boulevard resident was arrested on charges of obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of stolen property.
THREATS: A 37-year-old homeless man and known shoplifter entered AutoZone on Niagara Falls Boulevard at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Employees told him “not today” and asked him to leave. The suspect returned a short time later and told the AutoZone employee “I’m coming for you” and “I’m going to follow you to your car and beat you up.” Police filed an order of protection for the AutoZone employees but the police report did not reflect criminal charges.
SHOPLIFTING: A 22-year-old Cheektowaga woman was charged with petit larceny at about 6 p.m. Friday after she was caught allegedly attempting to take goods favored at more than $500 without paying.
