City bond rating increased

One of my favorite Demetreus Nix rants went something like this.

“When you Black, your City Hall should be the same City Hall as the White people,” he said.

“It should not be the (social services) building on 10th Street.

“Your City Hall should be where you go to pay taxes and water bills, not where you go to get benefits so the government can keep you poor and keep public housing full.”

I thought of that this morning when I saw Page 1 of the Gazette. An image of the monstrosity that holds the police station and courts in the otherwise desolate carcass of Main Street ran with a story likely fed to Rick Pfeiffer by Mayor Bob Restaino celebrating the city receiving an increase in its Fitch bond rating to BBB+ stable.

The caption underneath read “Niagara Falls Municipal Complex.” No one noticed the blue sign on the building that reads “Police”, at least not until 7:20 a.m. today when Page 1 got updated.

It would be funny if the majority of American Rescue Plan funds hadn’t been spent on police and fire.

Hey, at least they didn’t use a photo of the social services building and now, if the council votes to bond Centennial Park, it will cost less.
