Parkway removal forum Dec. 3 and 4

The vanquishing of the urban stain that is the carcass of the Robert Moses Parkway will be the topic of a pair of public workshops from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Amtrak Station, 825 Depot Ave. and from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Red Brick School House Gym, 145 North 4th St. in Lewiston.

Each session will include a formal presentation and a discussion Earlier this year, a similar session featured DeVeaux residents mostly supporting the idea of removal of the blighted expressway to reconnect the neighborhood to its river.

Most of the voices from Lewiston seemed opposed to any change, fearing it would bring more traffic into the village or increase the amount of time it takes to get up the hill on the occasions they visit Niagara Falls.

Lewiston Mayor Ann Welch appeared to be the voice of reason in the last meeting, pointing out to those gathered that it takes 10 minutes to get to Youngstown from Lewiston on River Road and no one complains.
