A candlelight vigil for a young man who overdosed was marred by gun violence Sunday night.
A 31-year old male is in critical condition following the shooting on 19th Street.
Around 9:35 p.m., Niagara Falls police officers responded to the area of the 1000 block of 19th Street after hearing two gunshots while on an unrelated call nearby.
Upon arrival, they located a male, who had been shot, in front of 1027 19th Street. Fire and AMR were requested but, prior to their arrival, the male had already been transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in a private vehicle. The male was later transferred from NFMMC to ECMC by ambulance.
There was a vigil going on in front of 1027 19th Street at the time or around the time of the shooting. At this time, police have not linked the vigil and the shooting together.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Niagara Falls police criminal investigation detectives at 716-286-4553 or use the general information line 716-286-471

Thanks for covering this event. Maybe next time I will send you a drone picture of all 200 of us, and you can then post that.Â
Does anyone know the proper process in Niagara Falls, NY for getting bulk trash or debris removed from a private yard? I’m trying to figure out who handles it and what steps residents are supposed to follow.
I would say organize a group of people to address the property you are concerned about and bring it to the curb on May 9, the annual Niagara Beautification Commission cleanup. Casella will pick it up.
