Took a late afternoon run to Gail's for gas and to see if Kydd’s farm market had garlic. There was only a little left, kind of punky, dried out but still better and cheaper than the California stuff from the grocery store.
Headed east on 31 and north on Shawnee Road thinking of maybe catching a flight at Bella Rose.
Then when we saw an unexpected sign at Human Road promoting wine tasting so we turned because it was unknown to us.
Anthony Manor at 3671 Human Road is owned by Erin and Dean Anthony and has been open for about the last year. If I wasn’t a bit aggressive by nature, we wouldn’t have pulled in but there, to the right of the house was an out building with an open sign in the window.
We parked, went in and found Bailey. She almost immediately streamed blues music to the sound system and explained the tasting menu, wines all made by the proprietors and liquor to taste from North Ridge Distilling and Niagara Craft.
We shared a flight of wine. It wasn’t the best we’ve tasted on the Niagara Trail but I took a liking to the Marechal Foch. I am a rank amateur when it comes to oenophilia. That said, we ordered two reds and two whites in our shared flight. Beth preferred the riesling. I preferred “i AM a MF” mostly because of the label.
We tasted some of the most recent North Ridge vintages including forbidden apple which tastes like pie and Fire and Smoke which is more sophisticated than mass-produced so-called cinnamon whiskey. https://northridgedistillery.com/
(We skipped Niagara Craft products because we know them already – the 1808 bourbon, Sinferno and especially krupnik are all fantastic (niagaracraftspirits.com).
Anyway, they had some locally produced beer to sample but that will happen on a different day. For today, “i AM a MF” and Bailey rocks.
