Restaino makes the 'Naughty' list
The State Committee on Open Government has placed Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino on its “Naughty List.”
If I were to make a “Naughty List,” I would put him on it for not attending city council meetings but not for his treatment of the Gazette.
Placing him on the Naughty List for not responding to Freedom of Information requests from the Niagara Gazette is at best, weak. Sure, his administration was unresponsive and noncompliant with the Freedom of Information Law.
That said, the Express works for the betterment of Niagara Falls. So does Restaino. The Gazette does not.
Above the flag in the Gazette rests the phrase “Community Matters.”
And yet, they still send police reports to Shredd and
Ragan so they can do a 30 minute infomercial about “Niagara Falls, shithole.” Hardly something to facilitate when “community matters” and most of the world thinks of Niagara Falls as a magical place.
When the newspaper dies, Niagara Falls will be better off. A digital subscription today costs $475 annually.
Of course, I would like Mayor Restaino to be more congenial but when a dying newspaper works to encourage the death of your community, and you are mayor, flip them the bird.
