Mayor tells Channel 7 about Hyde Park plan

No transparency

I saw the cryptic message dictated to the Gazette Tuesday by Mayor Restaino and on Facebook letting us know Hyde Park Arena would remain open.

Social media postings and cryptic messages mean nothing. Our transparent mayor is opaque.

I stopped and chatted with Brian Archie. He had nothing to offer.

“I find out about things when y’all do,” he said.

I left and pedaled to Hyde Park Arena. Mike Carella was there. I get the impression he’s the sort of guy who's been putting his life into a place for 14 years or more, building a rink family from nothing and now left to wonder what’s next.

Carella said he will be around until Sept. 30. After that, all he has heard are rumors.

The sad reality is if a Mayor visited the arena, saw what was there and given it careful consideration, there likely was a logical, civil way to work through the problem.

We will wait to see what gets dictated to the Gazette or if today's Youtube message contains shots at "some people" in addition to the weekly weather forecast. The hockey families and the people who support them? In the eyes of the administration, “fuck ’em all.” They don’t vote.

Carella said the tournaments he runs at Hyde Park will continue because that is separate from operating the rink.

Thursday the Mayor granted an audience to Eileen Buckley of Channel 7. The temporary operator will be Jerry Puleo. Details remain scant but Carella’s failure to pay appropriate respect to Don Restaino has made him persona non grata.

What the truth is about the money Carella allegedly owes for back utilities will likely never be known because the mayor can't seem to keep a controller around to count the beans.

Just wondering if the contract to run the ice rink at Hyde Park has anything with getting a contract to run the ice rink at the Centennial Park?  Because even when the people don't want some thing the Mayor always get his way.
