Niagara Falls School meeting notes

The City School District of the City of Niagara Falls, New York, met on Thursday, August 28, 2025 for their regular monthly voting meeting.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Richard Carella, and Principal on Special Assignment, Carrie Buchman, presented the New York State Literacy Attestation required by all New York State schools demonstrating alignment with the Science of Reading.

Department leaders for instruction, technology, maintenance, and human resources gave a presentation on summer work and readiness and their respective areas for the 2025–2026 school year.

The August 28, 2025, voting agenda was reviewed by Superintendent Mark Laurrie. The Board of Education subsequently approved:

  • $200,858 in payments to various contractors for capital projects work on-going in the district
  • A continued lease with Niagara Mohawk for the use of an access road off of New Road to Niagara Falls High School
  • Accepted funds for student supplies from National Grid as a gift
  • Amended the District’s code of conduct to reflect the policy of banning internet enabled devices for students during the school day
  • Accepted a bid from Sherman Williams to be the supplier of District paint and products for the 2025-2026 school year

Superintendent Laurrie reinforced that the internet enabled device ban takes effect on the first day of school, which is Wednesday, September 3rd. On Tuesday, September 2nd, the District’s first greenhouse will have a soft opening at 4:00 p.m. at Bloneva Bond Primary School. He reminded parents to sign up for the bus app and the remind app to increase the amount in information and communication between home and school.

The next meeting of the City of Niagara Falls School District Board of Education will be Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 5:30 PM.
