Pedal for the Parks
Meanwhile, if blues on Old Falls Street isn’t your thing (or even if it is), you can visit Pedal for the Parks, the 2nd Annual State Parks fundraiser which takes off Saturday morning from Art Park.
Registration is still open. The ride will take off from the lower parking lots at Artpark. My suggestion: Avoid congestion, park in the upper lots and ride down.
There are multiple ride choices including 100 km, two 24-mile choices and an 11-mile ride.
The Soul Committee will entertain at the post-race party.
Borderland
When the lineup came out for Borderland this year, we saw the early bird ticket price and decided to buy 3-day passes for the annual East Aurora festival at Knox Farm State Park.
We have not attended since the first year. For us, this has been a summer of music. We decided to eschew a big vacation and see lots of shows.
In fact, we’ve seen so many I almost lost track.
New bike
In the end, I bought a Gazelle Medeo through Go Bike Buffalo. The mid-drive Danish bike is slightly faster than my Specialized Como but has about the same range.
Sunday I took the new ride to Canada to lead a 2-hour walking tour for a group of college educators in town for a conference. Spending 2-hours entertaining academics was a bit intimidating but I think they had fun and I didn't run out of material even if I had to resort to hand-written notes leading to a reaction of "ooh. Old School."
I was trying to remember the names of the workers on the scow when it was grounded in 1918 and peaked at my phone. I was immediately challenged "are you using ChatGPT?" I put my phone away and didn't touch it again for the duration.
Riding across the Rainbow Bridge was also fun. The toll was $1. Bikes pass in the vehicle lane but customs was not a hassle.
