A great day in Lewiston
Every festival in Lewiston has its own personality. The spring garden festival, lot of plants and art.
Harvest and Hop, lots of beer and fall things.
The Art Festival, no junk, vetted art from real local artists.
And the Jazz Festival? Great music and so much food and drink it almost becomes the focus.
I paid $8 for jazz festival-themed plastic cup of a juicy IPA. The glass seemed a bit small. I stopped at the Resurgence tent and the worker took my glass and gave me a new one. $7 for 16 ounces. The branded ones were barely 12 ounces.
As for music, we listened to a fine quartet from the porch of the Frontier House while enjoying arancini from Casa Antica and a gyro pita from a food truck (I didn’t catch the name.)
We also listened to a full set of Maria Sebastian who thankfully mixed original in with covers.
Morinello calls it as it is
Assemblyman Angelo Morinello, always sincere and forthright, a man of honor, greeted us to thank me for writing the truth in the Express Saturday.
He has a different take on how he’s been being portrayed after speaking out against the Restaino cabal.
Morinello’s said his words were being spun to make him look bad for refusing to kiss Mayor Restaino’s ring with regard to Centennial Park.
He said the problems he was speaking about were not so much with Restaino, but with 60 years of bad decisions. He also said he views the administration of Paul Dyster as worse but he expects if Restaino runs again he will lose.
In the opinion of the Express, far too often when something good happens in Niagara Falls, it is in spite of the city government, not because of it.
Judas Tree open
I asked Josh Carey who owns Judas Tree with his sister Bekah why the restaurant was closed since late last year, just the long and the short of it, in brief. His response:
“The sewer line collapsed. It took a long time to fix it.”
We are happy to see them open again because it’s a great atmosphere and I don’t mind paying a bit extra for a margarita or an espresso martini when there is none better. It’s more high-end sophisticated than some of the other options on third Street.
Archives Drive today
I would have written more about it but I didn’t know until Friday that the Niagara National Heritage Area is hosting a community archives drive from 1-4 p.m. today at the Heritage Realty Office, 1517 Main Street.
The event is free and open to the public with refreshments from 777 Bazaar and DiCamillo’s.
Residents are encouraged to bring postcards, journals, family photos, letters, postcards, blueprints, in short, anything that tells the story of your life and community.
Porch Fest next weekend
Next Saturday is Porch Fest Niagara Falls USA in the Park Place Historic District. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m.
The reason we ended up at Judas Tree was because Porchfest had a pop-up preview at the gazebo across the street. There is so much to learn and see in Niagara Falls I have to confess I had never done more than pass Columbus Square Park at 15th and Pine. What a fine tribute to the Italian heritage of our city.
Uncle Ben’s Remedy in Wilson today
If you need something to do today, visit Wilson Boathouse and check out Uncle Ben’s Remedy from 3-6 p.m. for a rollicking good time.
