On Tuesday, May 13, community members will have the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates running for two open seats on the Niagara Falls City School District (NFCSD) Board of Education. This public forum, hosted by the Niagara Community Information Group, will take place at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the downtown main branch public library.
The forum offers an important opportunity to learn more about each candidate’s priorities and perspectives ahead of the upcoming district-wide vote on Tuesday, May 20. On that day, voters will select new school board members and decide on the proposed school budget for the upcoming year.
Public education plays a vital role in the success and well-being of students and the broader community. With ongoing questions about how resources are used, how student outcomes are measured, and how decisions are made, this election carries significant weight. While various programs have been introduced over the years to support student achievement, community members have expressed a desire for greater transparency, accountability, and meaningful engagement.
Effective school leadership requires clear communication, collaborative planning, and consistent efforts to involve parents, educators, and local partners. The decisions made by the NFCSD Board of Education impact not only academic outcomes but also the trust and partnership between schools and the families they serve.
All residents are encouraged to attend the candidate forum, ask thoughtful questions, and participate in the May 20th vote. Staying informed and engaged—before and after the election, ensures that every voice has a role in shaping the future of education in Niagara Falls.
