With all the nonsense over the Clean Team wiping out a garden a few things slipped through the cracks.
It is not uncommon for the Clean Team to be out multiple times weekly.
Thursday was a blitz day, targeting problem properties and alleys with dump trucks and highlifts and the cooperation of Casella Waste Systems.
There were 26 trucks working and 75 tons of trash collected.
Multiple highlifts and dumptrucks from the DPW were out in alleys and problem areas collecting refuse and carting it to the dump by the Grand Island Bridge. The collection was scheduled long before the issue over the Ontario Avenue garden but was delayed a week because of weather.
Among the area targeted by the cleanup was the 400 block alleyway between 18th and 19 streets and the 1500 block alleyway between Pierce and Whitney avenues. Both sites are plagued by illegal dumping activity.
