McKimmie calls for Hochul to act
As public backlash continues to grow to the massive National Grid rate hikes approved by the Public Service Commission, Niagara County Legislator Chris McKimmie is calling for the resignation of all PSC commissioners.
“I continue to believe that Gov. Hochul and her unrealistic climate goals are the root cause of these rate hikes that will hit New York’s working families. Yet, when I publicly said so, Gov. Hochul’s spokesman directly contradicted that and said that Hochul is opposed to these increases and has no control over the PSC,” McKimmie said.
“However, Gov. Hochul appoints all PSC commissioners. So, either the governor is letting the commissioners take the heat for a rate increase her policies caused, or the PSC has gone rogue and is acting without any accountability. If the latter is the case, the governor should join me in demanding the resignation of all PSC commissioners, and she should nominate new commissioners who understand the importance of maintaining affordable electricity for New York residents.”
McKimmie pointed out that, in 2023, the governor replaced two commissioners who were opposed to rate increases to fund climate goals – John Howard and Diane Burman – with two commissioners who backed the National Grid rate hikes.
