McKimmie delivers for youth football

Niagara County legislators like Christopher McKimmie get to allocate taxpayer dollars to organizations they deem worthy in their district.

Recently, McKimmiee presented a check for $3,200 to Charles Fink, president of the Niagara Falls Junior Football Club (NFJFC) and a retired Niagara Falls Police Lieutenant. The funds, provided through Niagara County’s Community Partnership Fund, will be used to purchase essential safety equipment for the young athletes participating in the club’s football program.

The NFJFC, a cornerstone of the Niagara Falls community since 1972, offers youth football and cheerleading programs that focus on building character, teamwork, and leadership skills.

The organization’s strong ties to law enforcement are evident, as several of its coaches and board members have a background in law enforcement. This unique connection allows the club to not only shape young athletes but also strengthen the relationship between local law enforcement and community youth.

McKimmie emphasized his strong support for youth athletic programs and the safety of children in the community, “Programs like the Niagara Falls Junior Football Club provide a vital outlet for our youth, teaching them life skills while ensuring their safety. As someone who has spent my career in public safety, I’m committed to ensuring these programs have the resources they need to thrive.”

This latest grant is part of McKimmie’s broader effort to invest in youth athletics and safety. Earlier this year, he secured a $3,500 grant for the Niagara Falls Police Athletic League to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to enhance safety for young athletes.

He also secured a $4,000 grant for the Cayuga Youth Athletic Association to support its programs.

“Youth sports not only develop character but also foster a stronger sense of community,” McKimmie added. “I’m proud to play a role in supporting these initiatives.”

The Community Partnership Fund is an initiative designed by the Niagara County Legislature to empower local organizations by providing resources to enhance community programs and improve quality of life for Niagara County residents.
