There was no Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration planned in Niagara Falls for the Friends of the Turtle decided to do something about it.
The group put together a walk for Monday.
Here is schedule :
The walk is scheduled for Monday Discover Niagara will provide shuttle services for participants.
Tentative Schedule:
9am-10am - Registration
10am-10:30am - start walking from the Underground Railroad Heritage Center and stop at Schoellkopf. For those that only want to walk about a mile, it will give people the option to get on a shuttle from this point to the turtle or back to the Heritage Center. It should take 20-30 minutes to get to Great Lakes 360.
11:00am-11:30am - participants leave Schoelkopf and walk to the turtle (another mile). I think we will be at the turtle about 11:30. Participants can get a shuttle back to the Heritage Center.
Organizers did not mention it, but the stairs adjacent to the Whirlpool Bridge and a walk along the gorge is an option that should take about an extra 10 minutes or so. For the adventuresome, continue downhill to the Maid of the Mist winter dock and then take the elevator back to the top.
I would be participating but we will be off in the woods, a tradition we started back when it was still called Columbus Day.
