So my comment about Third and Niagara Street parcels resulting in residential upstairs, vacant retail space on the ground floor like a lot of the real estate fixed up on Third and Niagara brought offense to at least one investor proud of Wine on Third and The Craft.
It doesn’t change the reality of the former Ashkars or other properties on Third Street but hey, two properties are OK.
Meanwhile, Daredevil Records is closing. Today is the last day. Good luck to Jessica Berry and Edyta Chorostkowska on wherever the future leads each of them.
I can’t mention enough if you add up all the projects happening along the Niagara River, on Pine Avenue and in the entertainment district right now, public and private investment will result in something more than $500 million in the next decade. My estimate is low.
Imagine if the Data Center or hockey rink ever get built.
Saturday brought us to a mostly rained out Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market in the morning and the Artpark Strawberry Moon Festival in the afternoon.
We watched some of the smoke dance competition and listened to Tonemah.
I also had a nice chat with a member of the Seneca Alleghany who explained the common misperception that her tribe members get lots of money for hosting the Salamance casino. The annuity pays her $700 per month.
The Seneca Alleghany are accepting of, and peaceful toward the Tonawanda Seneca and Tuscarora but both tribes are considered to have come from elsewhere and settled on reservations as defined by the United States government. The Senecas near Salamanca and Irving have their own territory. That is different even if their government structure is defined by a treaty with New York State which is not a sovereign nation.
