Hunter Biden defends himself

Republicans in the House have subpoenaed Hunter Biden. Biden has said he would testify, but since the GOP insists on transparency and has lied in the past when his business associate testified behind closed doors, he must be permitted to testify in a public hearing so his words can’t be misrepresented. The Republicans, who mostly skipped testifying when subpoenaed to talk about their role in the insurrection and were not held accountable for it, are now threatening Hunter with contempt of court. Rules for thee, not for me. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hunter-biden-subpoena-testimony-house-republicans-contempt-of-congress/

Testimony concludes in fraud trial

Testimony concluded in the civil fraud trial over how the Trump organization manipulated property values to get better terms on loans while minimizing taxes. It’s not a question of whether it happened but of how much of a penalty is due and if the organization should ever be allowed to do business in New York again. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-civil-fraud-trial-testimony-concludes-2023-12-13/

Senate passed defense bill

The National Defense Authorization Act passed the Senate Wednesday and now goes to the House. Included are a 5.2% pay raise for soldiers as well as a 4-month extension of FISA, the controversial domestic surveillance program. Not included was any mention of culture war items or immigration reform which the far right keeps trying to add to every bill. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/majority-us-senate-backs-mammoth-defen…
