Niagara Falls Blues Fest is this weekend
The Niagara Falls Blues Festival is this weekend. There is music starting at 5 p.m. today with Cleveland’s Back Street Blues Band followed by Spencer MacKenzie and Joe Louis Walker.
It is amazing how timeless the blues can be. Walker is 73 and is known for playing old style electric blues. He’s made a lifetime out of it.
MacKenzie is younger, Canadian and reminds me of Jeff Healy.
Saturday starts at 1 p.m. with Tommy Z followed by Studebaker John and the Hawks.
Mike Morgan and the Crawl take the stage at about 5 p.m. Saturday with the sort of Texas blues that come from years of grinding. He has 14 albums and is still only 64. Stevie Ray anyone?
Saturday’s headliner is Shemekia Copeland. She has that certain soul that comes from only the best female blues singers with wicked range and a passionate emotional register.
Toby Rotella might not be here, but the Niagara Falls Blues Festival is still here and getting better all the time. See you there.
