For another few weeks, there will only be a few Discover Niagara Shuttles running then the number will triple.
Last Saturday we took the free ride into Lewiston with our dog Gord.
We had to walk to Whirlpool State Park because it no longer stops at DeVeaux Woods.
There were at least 15 people on the bus. Promotional video plays in the front, informing visitors of things they might otherwise miss.
We visited with a family here from Atlanta so their son could play baseball in Cooperstown.
They had misinterpreted distances on the map and walked all the way to Whirlpool from downtown to catch the shuttle. Their sons seemed a bit grumpy. Mom was fine, even after walking that distance in flip flops.
Many of the shuttles are now wrapped in Polly King art. It is a really nice touch to celebrate Niagara’s most prolific artist.
We walked around Center Street the way a visitor from away might, stopping for a beer at Brewed and Bottled, checking out a couple boutiques and deciding to get a bite on the patio at Cask and Cow.
We split a large salad and a plate of pasta with shrimp and alfredo sauce.
We waited about 20 minutes for the shuttle home.
“Is that a service dog?” the driver asked.
“No, he’s not,” I said.
“Then he’s not allowed on the shuttle” he said.
“The rule changed this year,” I said. “We got here on the shuttle and it’s our only way home.”
We walked past him with Gord and took our seats. He said nothing else.
We will explore some more this summer with the shuttle. It’s a great resource more people should use and taking it made us feel like we don't live here.
