75° and Sunny
Each week, Niagara Falls Mayor Rober Restaino goes to Youtube and issues an edict to whomever has most recently agrieved him. This week it is Union President Tim Huether. We also get reminded about bicycle safety and the weather. The Express transcribes it in case you don't want to watch.
Smoke has cleared
A few things I want to catch you up on. One, the good news is that it appears as though wildfire smoke that was causing problems last weekend is past us. So that’s a good thing for those who have difficulty breathing, as well as for those who just simply found it to be uncomfortable to be out during that time. So we’re glad for that.
Summer work
We continue, um, to Move forward with some of the summer work that’s usually done notwithstanding the fact that the union leader tried to eliminate the repair of sidewalks. (Editor’s note: The Mayor won’t say Tim Huether but Tim Huether.)
Our DPW administration has hopefully put an end to those kinds of efforts on the part of the union presidents to impact services to all of you.
Clearly they have indicated that is the men and women who work at the Department of Public Works that they would like to be able to accomplish, the work that has been assigned to them: sidewalks and road paving.
We will continue to work with them and others to make sure that all of that gets accomplished during this season that we have over the next few months.
Mayor will see if magic really rocks
I don’t know if anybody is aware of Leon Etienne. He’s a magician who is permanently stationed, uh, downtown near Old Fall Street.
The theater that he performs in is in the Comfort Inn. This evening I’m gonna go down and see how the show is. I am looking forward to then sharing with you my thoughts on the show. This is another exciting thing that we have happening downtown.
Music on Old Falls
Again, there’ll be music down on Old Fall Street today as they continue the Friday concert series tonight. So get on down there if you’re interested in sitting out under a beautiful sky tonight, uh, to enjoy some music.
Roddy Gale is awesome
Yesterday we had the chance to recognize one of the city’s own, Roddy Gale Jr., born and raised here in the city of Niagara Falls. I had an opportunity to meet with his parents, uh, wonderful people.
Roddy himself became a member of the national NCAA men’s basketball division one national champions. University of Michigan contributing significantly to the success of that team. Yesterday we had an opportunity on his birthday to visit with him to provide a proclamation indicating the city’s appreciation for all of his efforts, uh, and recognizing him, you know, for being, a model for so many.
The other thing that we learned about Roddy is that it’s not just his basketball talent, but the type of young man that he is. He loves to give back to others and to help try and guide them along the right path.
So we congratulate Roddy. We wish him all the best. I know that in my conversation with him, he was excited about the fact that a few different teams in the NBA were interested in him because of his performance, um, in the summer league.
We wish him all the best and hope that his career continues to grow. Uh, again, it’s always great to be able to celebrate one of the residents of the city of Niagara Falls who’s who’s really doing some fantastic things.
About the weather
We are expecting a pleasant weekend. If you’re gonna be out and about again please let me remind you that the roads are shared by everyone.
Motor vehicles, bicycles, E-vehicles, scooters and bicycles. So let’s all be careful out there. We’re sharing it. So each one of us has an obligation to be careful.
Motor vehicles have an obligation to stop at stop signs. We have a new one at Sixty Eighth Street and Buffalo Avenue.
A lot of indicators that that remind you that it’s out there. Please be sure to stop at that location. One of the reasons why it was put there, there are some senior citizens who live in some of those townhomes and apartments along that street, and they found it difficult to cross Buffalo Avenue because there was nothing to slow traffic down.
Please be mindful of the fact that it’s important that we honor those traffic control devices. But in addition, bicyclists, both e-bicycles, regular bicycles, e scooters, you also have an obligation to be mindful of the traffic patterns as well as of the road signs that are out there.
Let’s keep the road safe for everyone, especially all of you that are using it and are pedestrians, because really and truly. The only way for us to keep the road safe is each one of us has to do our part.
