A group of workers from the United States Geological Survey were in Gill Creek in waders Wednesday capturing fish.
They were using poles to poke them away from the walls of the culvert under the bridge, just below the dam and nets to capture specimens.
Some of the fish captured were in excess of 12 inches. One of the workers explained the sampled fish will be tested for mercury and PCBs.
There is no sampling data on the USGS Website.
Sunny, with a high of 80 and low of 57 degrees. Sunny for the morning, overcast in the afternoon, clear overnight.
Please be careful when you allude to the fact that the Lower Niagara trails can be navigated by bikes. I have grandchildren who ride with me, and we stay on top of the gorge on the blacktop paths.
