Community cleanup for another year

Image

The annual Niagara Beautification Commission annual community-wide cleanup happened Saturday.

Somewhere around 1,000 volunteers gathered to collect trash city wide.

Hundreds of bags of trash are now stacked curbside citywide and will be collected by Casella in the coming weeks. It literally takes weeks for the service.

I won’t get into mentioning groups because it’s too easy to leave some out. But the students from LewPort High School deserve special mention for showing up to serve meals donated by Tony and Mike Poletti of the Marketside Restaurant which would be a great place to go for Mothers’ Day breakfast.

Doing our part to keep Niagara beautiful is a 365-day job.

To that end, the LaSalle and Main Street libraries now have clean kits you can check out with a library card. Included are a trash grabber, bags and work gloves.

A big activity ramping up for NBC will be not only the annual maintenance of the Hyde Park Rose Garden but supporting Men Standing Strong Together in the return of the first 4th of July Parade in Niagara Falls in recent memory.
