Yes, potholes are everywhere.
It doesn’t matter if you are in Niagara Falls, Lewiston, Lockport or the Tonawandas. Our freeze/thaw cycle brings the inevitable.
I hit one hard yesterday as I rounded the corner from Main Street onto Third Street and took my eye off the road to look through the intersection after a bus made the turn in front of us. That is a sneaky tight intersection.
Friday city crews were out hotpatching for the first time of the year hitting Pierce Avenue near 11th Street.
Social media keyboard warriors were ranting and raving in ignorance, criticizing the process because cold patch doesn’t work (even if it is better than nothing).
The trouble was they were commenting under photos the city posted showing the hot patch crew.
And just like every time anything comes up in Niagara Falls, they were blaming the government and somehow suggesting things are worse here.
Let’s face it. Somethings are worse, for example, our alleys and abandoned houses and how so many buildings keep burning on 19th Street.
Potholes though? They are an everywhere problem. Even in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where we perceive things to be better the mayor’s phone rings and rings with a multitude of complaints.
I was in favor of the full removal but as usual things like fire truck, emergency access and maintenance access were wheeled out to justify keeping the road north of Findlay.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Brent. NY Dept. of Transportation traffic studies over the years have repeatedly established that Moses Parkway removal north of Findlay would result in only one additional vehicle every two minutes on Lewiston Road as it traverses Deveaux.
Mr. Hufnagle, thank you for continuing to fight this good fight for the citizens of Niagara Falls. Coming back to the area after many years, I've been thrilled with the changes so far to the area leading up to Findlay, and hope for more in the future.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 71 and low of 58 degrees. Fog in the morning, patchy rain nearby for the afternoon, partly cloudy for the evening, fog overnight.
