Rapids purchased app in, another coming
We have had a submission for the Rapids Theater. As I indicated a few weeks back, we are anticipating getting a second application, today in fact (Friday) which will now give us the opportunity to select somebody to own and operate the Rapids Theatre to continue what we are doing on Main Street and that is develop a corridor where it is not only housing but also some community activities so we can reimagine Main Street.
Celebrate St. Patty’s Day
This weekend the Ancient Order of Hibernians is having its St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. The shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade will start at 1:45 p.m. and then it will be followed by the party at the Convention Center. I think the Hibernians for continuing that tradition. It will also be an opportunity for us to celebrate the city’s birthday in advance so if you don’t have any plans, come on down and join the party. It starts around 2 and goes until 7 or 8. There will be food, dancing, music. Come on out.
Black Achievers celebration Saturday
On Saturday, Black achievers will be holding their awards ceremony for individuals in Niagara Falls who have been recognized by the Black Achievers for the various activities that they have done. That activity starts with the red carpet at 5:30 p.m. and also is at the Convention Center.
Winter won’t let go and potholes suck
It looks like winter is back for a few days so be sure you are prepared. The excessive wind will lower the temperatures and start to bring some snow so please be careful if you are out and about. The colder the days the more difficult it is for us to get to the point the asphalt plant opens. Once the plant opens, our teams will be able to get the material to create a more permanent solution to street repairs. Right now, crews are out, depending on what other activities they have to engage in, putting a cold patch solution into the various roads. Again, it is not the most permanent solution but certainly the best that we have for now. Like most of you, I can see the roads need repair in so many places all throughout the community. It was an exceptionally difficult winter. I was at an event Thursday in Buffalo. There’s real issues everywhere in Western New York. So again, once we get to better weather and the asphalt plant opens we can start attacking some of those things.
In conclusion
Please remember if you are available on Saturday please come down to the parade and party and also celebrating our city’s birthday. Please be careful because we are going to return a little bit to winter.
