Gaskill teacher suspended

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls City School District is investigating an incident where a teacher allegedly made a racist joke in front of students.

According to Niagara Falls Schools Superintendent Mark Laurrie, a non-tenured science teacher at Gaskill Prep was put on paid leave after students reported the teacher told a racist joke Friday morning.

According to district officials, the teacher approached two students at the school, which serves seventh and eighth graders, and attempted to tell them a joke. The joke was described as highly inappropriate and racist.

The students reported the incident to an assistant principal, who then notified the district’s central office.

District leaders said the teacher was immediately sent home and placed on paid suspension while an investigation began.

Officials expect the investigation to wrap up soon and said administrators plan to meet with the teacher either later Wednesday or Thursday.

If the students’ account of the incident is confirmed, the district said further disciplinary action will be taken.

Interesting how the part about the teacher admitting to what was said. There was enough evidence that it did not need to be discussed with the Board yesterday.
Things are not what they seem. As we used to say, “Watch this space…”
