Chemical Waste Management tried to advance a new hazardous waste dump at Model City for more than 15 years.
There is sadistic irony in understanding Model City is where Mr. Love’s canal was supposed to end if it ever made it past LaSalle.
Finally, the decision that says “Go Away!” is permanent, though in our legal system there is always room for appeal.
Amy Witryol, squeaked, mewled, whined, bitched, cajoled and shook the pathetic woodchuck that was the application until it died. She was like my loving, kind poodle in our yard just knowing that groundhog was there, stalking endlessly until he got his chance.
Rooting for her was like rooting for Nate McMurray for Assembly. She was a pain in the ass but she was our pain in the ass. I don’t have to like her to say we need more like her. Congratulations to her. There is always hope, even if you feel like Don Quixote or an angry man shaking his fist at clouds. HUZZAH! What a fine Mitzvah.
Perhaps those three volumes of Lewiston-Porter school obituaries someone donated to the library reflecting premature deaths among faculties and staff were saying something. We need less toxic waste, not more. Maybe we all should have paid closer attention.
That said, Lori Caso poured her soul into being CWM’s advocate through the process. She also has produced “Lori and Friends” a fun Internet-based cooking show.
As a foodie, journalist, forager, cheapskate and mediocre cook I would welcome a chance to spend an hour with Lori or Amy talking about anything, including coffee.
