Walking the stairs

We came, we saw, we walked the stairs. For the fourth consecutive week, the “Community Engagement Walk” happened with Uniquia Lewis and he son Ahmad (Maurice.)

Gerald Kelly showed again, as did as did first-time visitors Noah Munoz and Kristian Ruggiero. Gord the poodle is always eager to drink from the river.

As my friend Pastor Mike Bowers says, "people go where they are invited, people stay where they are welcome."

The walk starts at 10 a.m. every Saturday.

I admit. I am a stinker about punctuality. Early is on time. On time is late.

Gord and I sidled up to Whirlpool Park at 10 a.m. to catch a glimpse of Ahmad disappearing down the path. I called out and they waited.

As we approached the stairs, Munoz texted me to say Ruggiero was with him and they were headed our way. We walked north a bit while we waited and snacked on some black caps.

Ruggiero and Munoz caught up. Kelly did too. We headed down the stairs and walked together for a bit before sharing a few moments at the flats.

I headed back up with Gord. Khristian wandered off and we left Uniquia, Ahmad and Gerald on the rocks with Noah over on the side doing elevated pushups.

The truth about these community engagement walks is make your own adventure.

One other thing, a compliment for Uniquia. One of the things that’s aggravated me in Niagara Falls since I got here is the amount of times an events start time is a suggestion.

“Express yourself Friday” at the Entrepreneur School of Thought might be scheduled for 3 p.m. but not start until 3:30 or 3:45 or even 4 p.m./

The community engagement walks start at 10 a.m. Join in next week. As I have said 4 consecutive times, I should be there but we have some travels coming up so maybe next week.
