More Indian food on Third Street
Power City Eatery might be closed but at least there is Indian.
On Third Street, we now have Zaika, Taste of Nepal, Nalai Banana Leaf and now Lal Qila is open at 431 Third St.
I hope at least one of these restaurants can stay open through the winter.
Hammer and Crown
I have been hesitant to throw in the towel on the new Third Street Brewery because I know how hard John Paul Meteer has worked to get it open.
The bad news: It is not open. The good news: Rumors of the project’s death under the weight of a landlord/tenant dispute are premature.
Meteer tells me he and crews are working on building out the front of the house and applying for a liquor license before they move to the kitchen and brewhouse.
There is no date for an opening but it most assuredly is more hopeful than Radio Social.
Judas Tree
My favorite Pine Avenue Tapas Bar, Judas Tree, is open again. At least according to friends that went there for drinks last weekend.
Vacant property
I drove around the Old Falls Street/Urbacon/Centennial Park site the other day. There are distinctive red and white, “no trespassing, do not enter” signs everywhere.
It is a branding message for Niagara Falls Redevelopment, letting the community know we will keep the lawn mowed but otherwise, we will let these homes decay until the land is vacant.
Come for a walk
This week will make the 4th Community Engagement Walk in the Niagara River Gorge. Meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in Whirlpool State Park near the bathrooms or in the parking lot.
What not to do is approach the cute blonde girl from white suburbia and ask “have you seen any random Black people around?” She will explode, rising from her chair. “Excuse me sir, maybe you should rephrase that.” “So, you didn’t see random Black people, they are my friends. They would be laughing if they were here.”
I think John Lewis called it making good trouble.
Check out ‘Magic Rocks’
Leon Etienne’s show continues 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday at the Comfort Inn. It is well worth it. But tickets at www.nfmagic.com
