As anyone who knows us realizes, we support small business.
That means Beeton’s, not Bert’s when oit comes to bikes.
It means La Hacienda or Fortuna’s for Italian, never Olive Garden.
It means FJZ at Lewiston Artisan Market or Anastasia in North Tonawanda for bread, not Wegmans.
It means Niagara Sausage Co. on Lockport Road or Thompson Farms on Grand Island for steak, not Wegmans or Tops.
It was a trip to Niagara Sausage for steak (can you believe, $17.50 for a pound of t-bone! Thanks a lot, Brandon) that was world changing for us.
As we were ready to leave with our steak and kielbasa, Beth spotted a loaf. An epic loaf.
A $13 loaf of Desire de Des Cheesy Garlic bread.
“Freshly baked, purely homemade taste and tradition in every bite,” as the label reads.
Researching on Facebook, I discovered Desire Pinkowski is running a home-based baking business on 78th Street. You can find her loaves at Niagara Sausage and Goodman’s Market, a half-dozen at a time. If you see it, buy it. It brings eternal life.
John 6:51 (from the label) “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whosoever eats this bread will live forever.”
The bread is awesome with a half-pound of mozzarella in every loaf. It is great toasted or heated in the oven at 350 degrees.
I am writing this at 10 p.m. Pinkowski is a baker. Calling her at the number on the loaf, at this time of night, is probably rude because it is past her bed time but dang, she is making some fine bread. We used to buy Power City Bread from Joe Hotchkiss at Niagara Sausage. As one loaf leaves, another shows. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573970761119
