Potpourri for a Thursday

Thoughts on buskers

Working as a guide in Niagara Falls on Sunday I appreciated 3 buskers.

One was playing Indian music. Another was standing by Terrapin Point with his violin. Then there was the dude playing his guitar and singing on the stone wall just across the pedestrian bridge to Goat Island.

If you want to entertain by playing for tips, do it. It is way better than sitting smoking a cigarette with a shabby cardboard sign that says “Homeless Please Help.”

Night Out is Tuesday

Annual even returns to Gill Creek on Aug. 5

The Garden & Highland Community Block Club will be hosting its annual National Night Out Celebration from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 5 at Gill Creek Park, 3085 Niagara St.

There are some sponsors in hand for the event but more are needed, according to Rev. Gwendolyn Streeter Walker.

If you are interested in being a sponsor, you can contact her at 708 275-0322

Listening to air traffic

One of the underrated ways life in Niagara Falls is better than Clarence is air traffic.

In Clarence, we heard commercial air traffic. In the Falls, we hear an F35 Lightning, Frece Tri Colori and the occasional rescue helicopter. The rescue helicopters sound different from Rainbow air

Loathing Spectrum

As much as I wish we had a more personal internet provider, and I loathe Spectrum, but props to them. I called to complain our WiFi was misbehaving.

One call led to a textbot. The textbot led to another text bot. I never spoke to someone in the Phillipines or India. I texted with a robot. A new modem and router are on the way.

Health insurance nightmares

Insurance companies already announced a premium increase of at least 35%. The MAGA administration announced cuts to Obamacare subsidies that are about 35%.

So, bottom line: If you are paying $400 a month to Healthy New York for a shitty ass high deductible plan that costs $1300 a month and requires a $6,000 premium before it pays for anything it is about to get worse

Do the math: the $1300 premium just became $1,755. Your $900 subsidy just became $600. Hence, that $400 monthly premium will now become $1,155 per month.

Consider yourself a bloodsucking ne’erdowell. Pick up your bootstraps and step up missy. Sorry you chose to own a small business. You are a loser.
