  Rabbi brings hope

Rabbi Yehuda Lorber sat with dignity Wednesday as Niagara Falls Council Chairperson Jim Perry read a Mayoral proclamation declaring “Education and Sharing Day” in the city.

Rabbi Lorber leads Chabad Niagara Falls, USA and hopes to establish a Temple here.

He handed out yellow Ark piggy banks. ARK representing Acts of Random (Routine) Kindness.

The logic is people are more influenced by the things they do than by the knowledge they are taught.

Small Mitzvahs (good deeds), collectively spread kindness to all, whether holding a door open, buying cookies from Girl Scouts or sharing a kind word with a coworker.

The idea is to nurture the inherent goodness in everyone to cultivate the latent empathy all people possess.

Education and Sharing Day is a cause championed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, a revered leader for many of the Jewish faith.

Rabbi Lorber addressed the council during the “For the Good of the Community” segment.

He did not mention the observance of Passover which begins at sundown Saturday and celebrates the escape of the Jews from Egypt 3000 years ago.

Chabad Niagara Falls has regularly prom oted its local activities on Goat Island and in the State Park. Niagara Falls once had a thriving Jewish community that has significantly faded from prominence.
