Council meets tonight

The city council meets tonight for what appears to be a routine meeting.

One interesting item on the agenda: Purchase of a new paver for the Department of Public Works. The $549,690 purchase is fully reimbursable by New York State.

The new Caterpillar wheeled paver will be purchased through the state contract and will come with training and set up. The machine will replace a 2010 unit that had a 10-year lifespan.

The agenda also includes a renewal of the short-term rental monitoring contract with Granicus at a cost of $37,000. Granicus monitors compliance with the city’s short-term rental ordinance.

The “For the Good of the Community” segment of the meeting is likely to include numerous speakers approaching the podium with some version of “see I told you so” over the Pit Chic terminating its dog shelter contract with the city.

The city has had a stray dog, and cat crisis for years and is in the process of building out a new shelter in building at Hyde Park.
