The review I wrote following Saturday’s Bywater Call show at The Caz in South Buffalo on Seneca Street can be found at https://thebuffalohive.com/
Just as The Niagara Express is beginning to fill the void left by the decline of legacy media, The Buffalo Hive is filling in the gaps around arts and entertainment with a collection of news veterans and journalists who no longer work at places like the Buffalo News, Lockport Union, Sun & Journal or Bee Group Newspapers.
There is irony in The Buffalo Hive name because Bee Group alumnus have always used that name for the weekly group’s newsroom. My byline makes two Bee Grop Hive vets at the new Hive. Kevin J. Hosey is the other.
Andrew Galarneau, formerly of the Buffalo News is doing the same thing at https://fourbites.substack.com/ I subscribe and trust his opinions on all things Buffalo food.
Substack is the most common platform used by writers like Galarneau as well as illustrator friend Frank Mariani, https://frankmarianidesign.substack.com/ Mariani is retired but can't put down his pencil.
Nonpartisan political historian Heather Cox Richardson has become the voice of many in trying times. https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/ She is my first read daily, pointing out if the Department of Government Efficiency was actually interested in government efficiency it would have started by engaging with inspectors general and bringing in auditors.
The Express is still sticking to Patch Labs as a platform because it makes it easy to post daily and communicate via email but I am always interested and things are evolving.
