Mulch for the peasants
Wood chip mulch is available in Hyde Park between the pavilion and the tennis courts. There is a pile for you. It is free. Load it yourself. Don’t even think about getting chickens.
(Editor’s note: Joe Genco has been wondering why multiple municipalities have been disposing of chipped brush by providing it to gardeners for decades. The only conversation ever with the Mayor on the topic, he said he was concerned a mulch pile would smell bad and attract rats. It is also February. The mulch is frozen. Unless you dig deep, where if, properly constructed, it is warm. The Genco family has compost pile fit for a flock of chickens.)
Too hell with Milstein
“This week we continue to drive our effort to discuss with NFR, the Milstein Group, when they will finally come to the realization that all the years that they have done nothing for this community need to come to an end.
“Their latest exercise in delaying the inevitable is to argue that the 10th Street Park is not a park. Not only is it the site where so many residents talked about having played little league games at the ballpark that was there but others have talked about community days that were there for picnics and other activities. It is remarkable to me that there are still some public officials and there are still some residents who believe that NFR means well.
“I want to remind everybody that the turtle property is supposed to become a hotel and spa and it didn’t.
“The area that I have just explained to you people was a park was supposed to be an over $100 million hotel/retail development and it is not.
“I can assure you that the plan that the group talks about for that area is also not reality. It is simply a case of an entity not being able to admit that what they have done to this community for close to 30 years is nothing short of just . . . it’s terrible.
“Keeping that property vacant, allowing it to sit without any development just is really, it is shameful.
“It is amazing that there are still public officials and political party people who still think it makes sense to deal with, talk with, bargain with the Milstein Group.
“It is also remarkable they will do anything for that donation that the Milstein group might give them.
“So you have to ask yourself the question, who are they committed to? And even if they try to convince you that well they are doing it because they can take those contributions and use it for the benefit of the city, that’s baloney because nothing comes for free
“So if in fact those donations happen there is a string attached. You know it, I know it. So I just hope that as we continue to stay the course and work toward removing this group from our community that these elected officials and political party people all come to the realization that this group is just not good for the community. It has deprived a generation of entertainment and development opportunities.
“It has foreclosed the future for so many people that had ideas for development, businesspeople even came to them with plans, ideas and plans which they simply rejected so I hope everybody realizes it is time to join together and just reject them and send them away.”
It’s Black History Month
The Mayor will be visiting Bloneva Bond School and read to one of the classes.
There are other opportunities put out there on social media if any of those activities are something you would like to take part it certainly this is an appropriate time to celebrate
