Niagara Falls Police Blotter

TRAFFIC STOP: At 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, police observed a vehicle traveling with its 4-way flashers on on Niagara Falls Boulevard and observed a blown front tire. The driver, a 21-year-old resident of 77th Street, told police he knew his tire was bald, hit a bump and it blew out. He was trying to make it home. He was ticketed for aggravated unlicensed operation and unsafe tires.

DWI: An officer traveling on Niagara Falls Boulevard near Packard Road observed a vehicle traveling 54 on a 40 mph zone at about 3:12 a.m. Saturday and executed a traffic stop. The driver, a Grand Avenue resident, 26, smelled of alcohol and told police she had two drinks at a friend’s house. She failed field sobriety tests, blew a .11 % BAC on a breathalyzer and was charged with speeding and DWI.

SHOPLIFTER: Police were called to Easy Home, 810 Portage Road for a shoplifter at about 9 a.m. Saturday. The suspect fled the scene but was found nearby and brought back to the store with merch valued at $75. The Beechwood Circle resident, 41, was charged with petit larceny.

SHOPLIFTER: Police were called to Target at about 2 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shoplifter. A 45-year-old Lewiston resident was located riding in the passenger seat of an SUV and matched the description. Items valued at more than $500 were recovered. The suspect was charged with petit larceny.

THEFT OF SERVICES: A Buffalo man, 64, stiffed on a $42 cab bill, making several stops Sunday morning and then attempting to hide inside Portage Road Tops where police found him. He told them he had no way to pay. He was charged with intentional fraud/obtaining transportation without paying.

STOLEN CAR RECOVERED: A vehicle with Ohio plates failed to signal a turn on 6th Street at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday. The driver, a 38-year-old Australian man was charged with unsafe turn/failure to signal. The driver showed police a rental agreement from Enterprise dated Feb. 21. He claimed he had extended the agreement. The car was towed from the scene. No stolen car charges were placed.

STOLEN CAR RECOVERED: An officer driving on 18th St. had her plate reader alert to a stolen vehicle and followed it to a D Street address at about 2:31 a.m. Monday. A 43-year-old D Street resident told police she borrowed the car from a friend she could not identify and had no idea it was stolen. She was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
