Short Take Politics
Angus King defends Constitution
As the attacks on our Democracy, Constitution and separation of powers led by a foreign-born, unvetted billionaire continue, Senator Angus King, (I, Me.) took to the floor of the Senate. Young spoke during Project 2025 author Russell Vought’s nomination hearing to lead the office of management and budget and laid out a cogent argument about the separation of power as defined in the Constitution. Vought explained the reasons why the assumed power of the President and Department of Government Efficiency are illegal and beginning to fail when challenged in court even before judges appointed by Trump. Heather Cox Richardson explains it better than I ever could. https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/february-7-2024-144
Spin on Politico
The news Website has an expensive political intelligence service to which numerous Senators and Representatives subscribe. This leads to conspiracy theories embraced by the right. https://www.npr.org/2025/02/07/nx-s1-5290282/politico-subscriptions-usaid-x-musk-trump
Court losses begin
As the unconstitutional actions of our President and his unvetted minions continue, the courts have begun to push back. As we learned in the 45th term, he has a habit of picking loser lawyers to write legislation and vet executive orders. They lose in court almost all the time. He can ignore the separation of powers and the legislative branch. The judicial branch is another story. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdd9p8g405no
