Council to consider bitcoin mine
There is a Niagara Falls City Council meeting tonight. Northeast Data, doing business as Blockfusion on Frontier Avenue, is asking the council to approve its environmental impact statement so it can begin a public comment period that will ultimately result in a high-energy use permit.
The applicant is attempting to comply with the city’s zoning ordinance which was passed after a bitcoin mine opened two years ago on Buffalo Avenue.
If the council approves the EIS, it will open a 31-day public comment period.
Computer cooling equipment remains staged at the former Globe Metallurgical site at Highland and College avenues but workers have not been seen on site recently.
In other action tonight, the council will be asked to approve a grant for solar-powered license plate readers to be used at police discretion in high crime areas.
