Niagara Falls Police Blotter
(Editor's note: What follows is the remains of last week's police reports. The first half published Saturday.)
TRAFFIC STOP: Police on patrol on Whitney Avenue at 2:33 a.m. last Wednesday observed a Kia fail to yield at a stopsign. Police executed a traffic stop and observed an open bottle of Patron, prescription drugs and a suspicious substance the suspect tried to explain away. The substances were taken for testing. The driver, a Centre Avenue man, 30, was charged with failure to yield.
PLATES TAKEN: A D Street resident reported someone stole the plate off the trailer in his yard sometime between last Sunday and Monday.
HIT-AND-RUN: A hit-and-run accident happened near 2200 Niagara Street at about 11:30 p.m. Dec. 23. One vehicle rearended another and fled the scene. The victim wrote down the plate number and described the suspect to police. On Dec. 29, an officer found the suspect’s vehicle in an alley. On Jan. 30, a Welch Avenue man, 37, called police and came into the station for an interview. He was charged with leaving the scene, following too closely, operating an unregistered vehicle, no insurance, no inspection, improper plates and felony aggravated unlicensed operation for operating with 10 or more suspensions.
MENACING: A 55-year-old homeless man who had allegedly shoplifted from Goodwill the Day before came black again about 11:35 a.m. Thursday and was asked to leave by store personnel. “I’m gonna beat your ass” he said to the worker, who believed him and called police. Police tracked the suspect down near Starbucks and charged him with menacing.
PORCH PIRATE: An officer on patrol near Hyde Park and Cleveland observed a known petit thief who was wanted on a warrant walking at about 9 p.m. Thursday. The officer ordered the suspect to stop after observing a gray tote back used to steal. The suspect told police he wasn’t going to be arrested and was not going to go to jail and began to resist. Police informed the suspect if he continued to ignore commands, force would be used. The suspect then complied. His tote contained a package addressed to someone else. Police were attempting to contact that person for additional charges. The suspect was charged with resisting arrest.
