The speed of government

Heather Cox Richardson writes this morning about the speed of government, noting the adept address of the Y2K computer crisis over several years averted disaster. It took 2 years for prescription price controls for seniors to take effect. It took 5 years for a contract to provide natural gas shipped by pipeline from Russia across Ukraine further into Europe to expire. Those governments needed that time to plan. Things don’t go as fast as we might like. Good government takes time. https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/january-1-2025

Terrorists strike

A trio of terrorism attacks greeted the New Year. Including: 1) A crash and shootout apparently carried out by a Texas Army veteran. 2) A Tesla cybertruck, apparently driven by an Army vet, was packed with fireworks and camp fuel and torched outside a Las Vegas Trump hotel. 3) A mass shooting wounded at least 10 teens outside a Queens nightclub. The first two acts were carried out using vehicles rented on Turo, an app that functions like AirBnb for your car. Here’s a link to coverage of the New Orleans incident from NPR. https://www.npr.org/2025/01/01/nx-s1-5245211/new-orleans-attack-bourbon-street-shamsud-din-jabbar

Meanwhile in Vegas . . .

Here is NPR’s coverage of the Cybertruck explosion. https://www.npr.org/2025/01/01/nx-s1-5245215/tesla-truck-explosion-trum…
